Unimot Group and Peninsula Petroleum Limited have signed a letter of intent to cooperate in the physical supply of marine fuel at Polish ports

On 29 April, Unimot Paliwa, a Unimot Group company, and Peninsula Petroleum Limited have signed a letter of intent regarding the cooperation in the supply of marine fuel at the ports of Gdańsk and Gdynia. Peninsula, the world’s leading independent marine fuel supplier, is expanding its global physical supply network to include the Polish ports.

The letter of intent calls for collaboration between the companies in the field of maritime fuel deliveries, based on the infrastructure of the Unimot Group’s fuel terminal in Gdańsk, which is currently undergoing reconstruction. The Unimot Group started its bunker fuels business through Unimot Paliwa in March 2024, and it is currently making great efforts to expand its business in this field. Negotiations with Peninsula, a company that specialises in supplying bunker fuels around the world, are one of such initiatives.

We could speed up the business and take advantage of the synergies between Unimot Paliwa, a company that specialises in fuel importation into Poland, and a global leader seeking to enter a new market by working together with a top marine fuel supplier. “Once the letter is signed, we will start identifying specific areas in which we could launch business, and we hope to report on the outcomes soon” says Robert Brzozowski, Commercial Vice President of Unimot S.A.

As part of the ongoing negotiations, the companies are also considering an interim solution to increase bunker fuel operations in Gdańsk until the target infrastructure is completed. One such proposed solution is the bunkering of ships in the Tricity ports area using a specially constructed barge, or a bunker vessel.

Bunker/marine fuels are special types of fuel designed to be utilised by sea going vessels. Due to the growing number of ships calling at Polish ports, and the growing number of transshipments, especially in the ports of Gdańsk and Gdynia, Unimot Group estimates that the market for bunker fuels in Poland is approximately 1 million tonnes annually. No bunker fuel supply company has ever had a larger share of the Polish market than the joint project run by Unimot Paliwa and Peninsula.
