UNIMOT invests in green energy – company obtains permit to build agricultural biogas plant

12.05.2025

In line with its 2024–2028 strategy, the Unimot Group is consistently investing in renewable energy sources. One of the Group’s key transformational projects is the construction of its first agricultural biogas plant, which has just received a building permit. The facility will be built in Mdzewo, located in the Strzegowo municipality in the Mazowieckie Voivodeship.

The new plant will convert agricultural and organic waste into biogas, which, after purification, will become biomethane – a sustainable alternative to natural gas. The biogas plant will have a capacity of up to 3 MWel and will be capable of producing up to 4 million cubic meters of biomethane annually. The installation will be connected to the Unimot System gas distribution network, enhancing the security of supply for end customers.

For Unimot, this is another step toward executing an investment that will enable the Group to transform its asset portfolio toward renewable energy sources.

“We see the future in biogas plants, which are already very popular with our German neighbors. We believe that Poland will also follow this path, especially if supported by proper legislation that fosters such investments,” said Adam Sikorski, CEO of Unimot.

Thanks to biogas plants, substrates that are considered waste in the agricultural industry could be used to produce sustainable fuel—biomethane. This represents a tangible support for the transformation of the gas sector in Poland.

“For Unimot, investing in biogas and biomethane in Poland carries broader significance. As one of the leading importers of liquid fuels, we are also committed to reducing emissions in the transport fuel sector. Biomethane, in the form of bioCNG and bioLNG, will be one of the most effective tools for achieving these goals. This investment will allow us to leverage our position as a multi-energy group and generate synergies across the entire capital group,” adds Adam Sikorski.

The implementation of the project will depend on a number of factors, including legislative conditions and the obtaining of corporate approvals. The Unimot Group estimates that the biogas plant could be launched in the second half of 2027.
